Compact Substrate Integrated Waveguide Quasi-Endfire Antenna for CubeSat Integration

A planar quasi-endfire surface-wave antenna (SWA) using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology for integration with CubeSats and other small satellites is proposed in this letter. This can be attached to the body of satellite, resulting a compact low-cost design. beam pattern achieved by radiation fundamental TM $_0$ surface wave mode at edge grounded dielectric slab (GDS). excited leaky SIW T-junction creating uniform wavefront that propagates through truncated parallel-plate (PPW). matching section based on an array subwavelength patches also added interface between PPW GDS reduced reflections improved performance. The measured prototype demonstrated realized gain values 13.3 dBi 18.6 GHz competitive structure size 5 notation="LaTeX">$\lambda _0$ × 4.8 simulated total efficiency 93.4%, providing high data rate capabilities downlink communications. could suitable CubeSat or satellite commercial missions, example, Earth planetary observations intersatellite links.
